Reviewing and merging duplicate contacts

Sometimes the same customer ends up as two contacts, for example when they first write without sharing their number and later share it. Mersal doesn’t guess. It suggests a merge, and you decide.

Where to find it

Go to Audience → Contacts → Merge candidates. The page has two tabs: Merge candidates and Merge history.

The page will usually be empty at first. That’s normal.

Review a suggestion, step by step

Open Merge candidatesGo to Audience → Contacts → Merge candidates to see the pairs Mersal suggests.

Compare the two contactsMersal shows both contacts side by side, so you can check they’re the same person.

Choose which one to keepKeep one of the two. Conversations, labels and lists move to the contact you keep.

Or dismiss the suggestionIf they’re different people, dismiss it and the two contacts aren’t merged.

What happens when you merge

Conversations, labels and lists move to the contact you kept.Opt-outs and blocks keep the strictest setting from either contact. If either one had opted out, the contact you keep stays opted out.

Undo a merge within 30 days

Undo itYou can undo a merge within 30 days.

Automatic merges

When the match is certain, Mersal merges for you. Certain means exactly one contact has that phone number and nothing conflicts. Automatic merges appear in Merge history, and you can undo them the same way.
